This is an aerial photograph of geothermal hot springs bubbling up from just below the water's muddy surface. These springs are just off the southern shore of the Salton Sea. Essentially its heat from magma deep below the earth's surface that finds its way out.
Geothermal energy like this is increasingly being harnessed for power. And I bet that in 20 years there will be a power plant on top of this spot as the Salton Sea dries up.
